RCIA: Sessions are held for those inquiring about entrance into the Catholic Church. Sessions are held weekly from September until after Easter. For more information contact the Rectory at (301 627-3255) or Regina Piazza
Baptismal Preparation: This class meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM in the church following evening Mass. Deacon Klco instructs parents and godparents on the sacrament of baptism and the ritual as it is conducted here at St. Mary’s. Information sheets are also filled out that will later be used for the registry and certificates. It is recommended that parents attend the class prior to the birth of their child. Call the rectory at (301-627-3255) to register.
Marriage Preparation: These sessions are held by the priests at the rectory on an appointment basis. Six months or more is the requested waiting period after the priest is notified until the actual date of the marriage. Prenuptial Investigation forms which verify freedom to marry and provide the data for the records are filled out. Baptismal certificates are required and the couple may have to take Premarital Inventory testing to help the priest in counseling them. Beyond the practical aspects of preparing the marriage ritual itself, such issues as the sacramental nature of marriage, marriage and family life, the role of prayer and faith in marriage, natural family planning, etc. will be discussed. Call the rectory for assistance in this regard, (301-627-3255).
School of Religious Education: Our religious education program for youth extends from first to eighth grade. Second grade is the class for first Penance and first Eucharist. Eighth grade is the Confirmation class. Classes follow the regular school year from Fall to Summer. Grades one thru eight meet at the school each Monday night from 7:15 PM to 8:30 PM. The school students have their religion as a part of their parish education. The young people are made familiar with important biblical stories, are taught the basics of Catholic doctrine, and memorize their prayers. They are also urged to live out the Gospel in charity and obedience. Every year there is a need for regular and substitute teachers to instruct our young people in the faith. Anyone who is interested in volunteering can call its director, Regina Piazza. |
