SACRAMENTAL POLICIES"The purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify humankind, build up the Body of Christ, and give worship to God. As signs, they also instruct: the very act of celebrating them disposes people more effectively to receive and grow in the life of grace, to worship God, and to practice charity. It is, therefore, of the greatest importance that the faithful should easily understand the sacramental signs and should eagerly frequent those sacraments which were instituted to nourish the Christian life" (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, no. 59). Catechesis is provided for adults and children prior to the celebration of a sacrament.
